deborah & lucas

deborah and lucas were my first couple to want to shoot a snowy engagement session. most people shy away from this idea because... well... snow is cold, wet and blinding. we met up in asbury park to incorporate snow, beach and urban elements...

i love how the snow was blowing around into the frame...

whenever i shoot in asbury park, i have to incorporate the 'wunderbar'. i just get a kick out of the place...also, i get a kick out of saying 'wunderbar' in a german accent...

on a bright sunny day, when the beach is actually covered in snow, you can get some cool effects....

deborah and lucas did a great job of not acting like they were cold... :o)

sometimes random people wearing funny hats wander into your shot... and sometimes it just cracks me up. i happen to know this 'random' person very well, but the truth is, he did just wander into my shot...

love this...
shooting on a very cold and sunny day after a major snowstorm presents quite the challenge, but deborah and lucas were troopers and toughed out the cold and me asking them to hike through the snow! yippee!

lillie & charlie

i first met lillie months ago and really enjoyed her warm spirit. i was looking forward to working with her...on what turned out to be a frigid january afternoon. this is the part where i think of some clever juxtaposition about her warm spirit and how freezing cold it was outside, but everything i thought of was cheesy and my nutritionist wants me avoiding cheese.

so i'll just tell it like it is... it was really, really cold and lillie has a super warm personality.

while lillie was getting ready...

hansel (awesome doggy) was looking on lovingly...

lillie is an animal lover like myself and rescued hansel a few years ago. she even sent me a picture of hansel before her wedding day so i could see what he looked like (if that isn't adoration, i don't know what is...).

it is challenging when a dog wants to be so close to your lens that you can't even focus on them... but sometimes they back up just enough so i can catch their cute expressions.

i loved hansel's tag... simple and cute. also, i loved hansel. what an awesome dog, if i didn't like lillie so much, i might have stolen him.

i personally don't have many shoes. i live in flip flops or running shoes for the most part, but i get excited when i get to photograph fun shoes. maybe i'm living vicariously through my brides, or maybe i should just start wearing heels while i blog...

lillie is a graphic designer and designed her own invitation...the blue she chose was perfection. sadly, the interweb never does justice to the colors.

gorgeous flowers by mark rose...

so beautiful...

i do not normally take fashiony (i know fashiony is not a word, but it is my blog so i will use it anyway) types of shots, but there was something about this room and lillie's look that made me want to take this shot...

gorgeous!

adorable...

lillie and charlie couldn't help but laugh at the barrage of people behind me taking pictures of them at the met. i've never understood the compulsion for people to take a picture of a bride and groom they do not know while on vacation... hah.

love this shot...

charlie fixes charlie jrs' tie...

i love that charlie and charlie jr are in sync with one another...

lillie sneaks a peek at charlie jr during their ceremony...

lillie and charlie had an intimate reception on the upper east side...

i love photographing kara (a bridesmaid from elizabeth and donovan's wedding back in september)... she has such a happy aura about her...

sometimes i take pictures and then later wonder... what are they talking about?

those are real pears and grapes. the grapes looked so amazingly delicious, i didn't think they could be real... there is probably some advice in some wedding etiquette book about not eating the centerpieces, but i bet at least one person ate a grape...

i really enjoy this shot...
lillie and charlie were a such a pleasure to work with. they totally went with the flow and were troopers for braving the cold! i'm honored to have been chosen to photograph their wonderful event and i'm also a little jealous that they are in warm hawaii right now!
